Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim

I have a Texas Teaching Certificate for K-8, all subjects. In addition to teaching elementary school I taught courses at the University of Texas in Austin in the undergraduate teacher education program. I supervised dozens of student teachers at UT, and have spent the past 17 years conducting professional development for educators (teachers, curriculum directors, principals and superintendents) in the field.
I encourage higher order thinking, and help students learn to become self-directed and independent. Not only will your child develop greater skills and knowledge in each discipline, he/she will develop many specific thinking strategies and skills which they will apply in the classroom and throughout life. Helping Others To Accomplish Their Goals

My style is what works for the person I am working with. I am opened to sharing my ideas, but listening to each individual and what works for them.
I have worked with various needy students who have been classified as learning disabled, or those who know they are in need for assistance. My experiences vary, as I worked with older children in filling out applications for jobs and to prepare for jobs.
