A Little Bit About Me...

During my years attending UMass Dartmouth, I recieved my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Business Administration. But I also gained alot of experience working with children. I tutored elementary age students in the star program and college students at my campus job in the Unity House. I also was the coordinator for the New Bedford Speech Academy. This program taught students fron 4-6th grade public speaking skills. I have applied the skills I learned to my current job as a home tutor. I tutor elementary to high school students in all subjects.
My teaching style is unique to each student's indivdual needs. I take time to recognize my students learning style and provide the need materials or teaching style based their needs. I prefer tutoring to working in a classroom because I can give each student the specialized one-on-one time they need to help not only keep ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

From my experience working with learners/students in both a classroom and a one-on-one capacity, I am comfortable working in either area. I am extremely patient and pride myself on making my students feel comfortable with me and I can adapt my teaching style to suit each child as needed. I come from long line of excellent teachers (as both my parents and my mother's father were all teachers and then principals) so it is in my blood. I know how to relate to children and therefore know how to get the best out of each of my students.
I hold an Honour's degree (equivalent to a bachelor's degree) in Statistics. During my studies, I was a student assistant for courses in end user computer skills. I've also done one-on-one mathematics tutoring to students from grades 8 to 12 for two years. In the final year of my degree I was a junior lecturer for a semester. I taught Statistics to a clas ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am a CPA with a Masters Degree in Accounting and I have practiced accounting and finance for my entire 28-year career. I have diverse industry knowledge to share with my students and I am current on today’s accounting standards. I have also been employed in a finance capacity for over 25 years.
I would like to help young people learn from my experiences. I teach practical applications and not just problems from a book, but my students will be well prepared for any type of examination, even the CPA exam. I welcome open discussions about the topic of the day and will never discourage a student from participating.

The key to teaching Mathematics is to let the student discover the Math through leading questions and enthusiastic teaching methods. Many teachers neglect to embrace the beauty of Mathematics and how it is a unique form of art. A negative disposition, especially with Mathematics, most often times lead to failure In American society, it is socially acceptable to be poor at mathematics. This mentality is encouraged my other students, teachers, and even parents! If I worked as a part of your team, I will try my best to inspire struggling students and make them think in a way they never have before.
Ever since I was a young child, my interest in Mathematics has been profound. In High school I was frequently participating in Calculus compet ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style changes based on how the student has been taught previously and I will try different methods to see what will work best for the individual. I know all students learn differently so I may take a direct method where we will go over the facts and jump straight into the material. Another method will be re-examining the material and finding what the student already knows and how that student normally studies.
Currently I have been working in Elementary School in the Fall River School Department. I have been placed in grades Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth grade. I also am pursuing my masters in High School Mathematics. Also in High School I was part of the peer tutoring club where I excelled at teaching others.
