A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in teaching is broad and varied. I have taught medical students, other physicians, technologists, as well as teaching at military facilities. In additiom, I have two school age children myself and I believe that I am their primary teacher. This varied teaching experience allows me to tailor my teaching methods to the students and has allowed me to gain a great fund of knowledge.
I believe that learning is best achieved in a comfortable, nothreatening enviroment. People learn best when they understand the importance of the material being taught, something I strive to convey to my students. While I can easily teach a didactic lecturing style, I feel that an interactive approach often better meets the needs of the students. Ultimately, education is a reflection of the students success and the teacher is merely a means to that end.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate I formally tutored fellow students in several subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics (from basic algebra to calculus). As a graduate student, I mentored several undergraduate students in the laboratory. Some of these experiences culminated in presentations of data at national and international scientific conferences. This trend continued when I became a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard, where undergraduates spent a summer in the laboratory learning about scientific exploration. During the past year I taught an undergraduate course (Brain and Behavior) at the University of Pittsburgh, which was a very rewarding experience. I am a proponent of two things. First, encouragement. I always encourage the smallest success before I point out any failure. I never get frustrated or upset. I never get angry or disappointed. I know that encouragement breeds success, and success is the goal. Second, I speak to children as if they know what I mean. In other words, I never talk down to them. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one. I do not possess documented experience from schools or other organizations. I am a very highly motivated individual that does not mind helping others. I also have experience in teaching or helping coach little league sports educating kids on how to play games correctly.
