I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from West Virginia University. I also played football in college and was active in tutoring fellow players. My course load was heavy in chemistry, physics, biology, and biochemistry. I have also taken the MCATs in preparation for medical school and scored a 36 (98th percentile), so I am also qualified to assist students in MCAT preparation.
I have a laid back style of teaching. I like to simplify difficult concepts and explain in different terms in order to help the student understand it. I am very good at presenting information in a different way in order to make difficult concepts easier.

In high school, I tutored mathematics at Alexander Children's Center. Many of the children were abused at home, creating difficult challenges initially. However, I was able to work through some of these challenges by creating a calm and understanding environment, but also by establishing a routine. Today, I continue to volunteer at the Center as a basketball coach and can honestly say that I love working with children. I realize that tutoring for children without emotional problems will be entirely different, but I believe the fundamentals of my approach will improve the performance of my students.

I spent my undergraduate career preparing to enter Veterinary School. I love the sciences and I thought this was what I wanted to do. After graduation, however, I discovered that this was not the path I was meant to take; I was meant to pass on my love of learning and teach. Earning a degree in Communications accelerated my skills in writing through Journalism, research papers and Rhetorical studies. While studying at NDSU I had the opportunity to tutor other athletes in geology, basic math, and the sciences as part of a work study program to help student athletes. I became a wilderness guide and instructor, teaching subjects such as cross-country skiing, swimming, trip leading, outdoor education, experiential learning to children and adults of all ages and abilities.
