A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught in both public schools and a school for multiple handicapped children. I am also experienced with high achieving physics students. I believe in learning through experience, and finding a venue that the learner understands to set the experience. I also believe in test taking , essentialist philosophy, because test taking to demonstrate comprehension is necessary to communicate understanding and advancement to college and beyond.
My teaching experience spans college freshmen physics to middle school math. I converted to education after 20 years as a materials engineer in a number of industrial manufacturing companies. I taught undergraduate Physics for 9 years at Colby College, a liberal arts college in Waterville, Maine. I emphasized both conceptual understanding and problem solving. Since Physics is a highly mathematical subject, I also taught a lot of Math techniques, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Another important component of any science is the communication of scientific results, and I placed a heavy emphasis in my classes on students learning how to write clear and well-organized research papers and lab reports. My own writing experience is substantial; I am first author on ten articles published in professional journals. I also excelled in my high school and college French classes and spent a year living in Paris.
