A language lesson include a variety of activities that combine different types of language input and output. To become engaged learners, students need to understand that learning a language is not the same as learning about a language. Students need to understand that learning a language means becoming able to use it to comprehend, communicate, and think – as they do in their first language. Activities include out-of-class observation assignments, in which I ask students to find examples of something or to use a strategy and then report back. I help students with homework if they had no time to do that at home.
