A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In my course of pursuing my Engineering degree, I minored in math where I became versed in Engineering math such as Calculus I-III, Analytic Geometry, Trigonometry, Geometry, Algebra I & II, probability and statistics to name a few. I have always had a knack for teaching as a youth and I got involved with the art of tutoring from my youthful days. I am graduating in May with my BA in Chemistry. I will continue school in the fall in hopes of entering the nursing program. I have helped several students with high school algebra, junior high algebra, as well as college algebra. I have helped non-traditional students not only pass but receive A's and B's in their math classes after not having a math class for 20 or more years. I have helped kids with special needs (such as autism) pass college level courses as well.
I love helping people and do my best to explain everything in detail. Math and chemistry come easier to me than others, and I understand this. That is why I take my time and do not get frustrated. My teaching style includes using the strengths of the interests of the child in teaching. To aid my child to read, I used his favorite card game (Yugioh) to aid him. I am hands on while teaching. I make sure that the learning is not boring. I will use card games to aid in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I use a combination of words plus visuals to aid the learner. I will write down the formulas or work out a problem for the student so that the example can be followed on other problems. I use acronyms for teaching as well. I also use these aids to help with memorization of facts.
