A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989. My degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. I taught in the same school district for 20 years where I gained experience teaching first, second, third and sixth grade. I am currently employed as the Elementary Student Advisor with the school district that my previous school district recently merged with. My daily duties include teaching guidance classes, advising individual students, working with At-Risk students on homework, and being a liason for parents and teachers. I love my job!
I believe that every student has the privilege and desire to reach his/her learning potential and that there are many different techniques and strategies to help them reach that potential. As an Early Childhood Education major, I have had over 300 practicum hours of experience in different classroom settings ranging from preschool aged children to third grade. I have also had two months experience of student teaching in a kindergarten and preschool age classroom. I have had many experiences working with children in both daycare's, school settings and volunteer programs. In addition to these hands on experience, I have had over 100 credit hours of courses discussing, experiencing and reading about different techniques in how to teach children. I have also tutored students in the areas of elementary science, math, reading and writing.
