My name is McCrae Mower, and I am currently a sophomoere at Minnetonka High School. I have been involved with tutoring for the last two years. I am part of an activity called "Backpack Tutoring." This program is a weekly volunteer experience to travel to an elementary school in Downtown Minneapolis. The program helps me to tutor students in grades K-5. I am very patient especially for students who learn slower than others because I was always a slow learner myself. I am very happy to repeat myself or go over other examples to help the student understand the concept. I also like to emphasize concept over memorization. Of course, math has a good amount of memorization, and yes, it is important; however, I believe that learning concept is more useful than sheer memorization, and understanding a concept is better than memorizing formulas and properties. I have tutored my peers throughout high school, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of mathematics with others.
