Encouraging & Patient Elementary Tutor

I have grown up around kids my whole life. I am the oldest of four kids and my mom has a day-care in her home. I always thought I wanted to be a singer until I decided my junior year in high school I need to pick a more stable job. I took an internship my senior year of high school where I spent half the day at school and the other half as an intern in a Kindergarten class. I loved it and knew I wanted to teach for the rest of my life. I went a private school in Indiana and graduated in 2015 with my degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I have been teaching professionally since 2011, and have worked in various other childcare/education positions before that. I have taught preschool, ESL, and Title 1 Reading/Math for grades K-5 since 2011. I currently work in Woodridge Local Schools and teach ESL students online. I love helping students with their phonics, reading, writing, and other language arts skills!

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : Wilson Reading Systems Level One (this focuses on decoding, encoding, comprehension, and fluency) Reading Endorsement k-12 Masters Intervention Specialist

I am an Intervention Specialist that teaches high school juniors and seniors with reading and writing. I have also acquired a Reading Endorsement that qualifies me as a reading specialist for grades k-12. Recently, I have furthered my reading intervention knowledge by mastering the level one certification with the Wilson Reading Systems. The Wilson Reading Systems prepares me to teach students to develop skills for decoding, encoding, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : I have taught elementary grades for over 15 years.

I have taught "students" from age 3 to age 73. Most of my experience has been in elementary classroom situations, but I have tutored individual students, taught computer skills to business classes and senior citizens, as well as business technology classes in a community college. I am also a co-founder of a small non-graded school which has now existed for over 40 years and is recognized as an established school by the state of Ohio. I enjoy teaching and enriching the lives of those with whom I have the privilege of working.
My teaching style is to engage the student as much as possible and to utilize as many senses as possible. I will often use a "game" to practice a skill. When teaching a skill, my emphasis is understanding "why" something is done a particular way rather than stressing straight memorization.
