I have been supervising other counselors since 1997 in their report-writing. I take pride in my writing skills in the face of a field riddled with nurses who prefer abbreviations to beautifully executed coherent sentences. The sheer eloquence of being able to deliver a report allowing the reader to infer the true meaning of your words, while not providing any statements that will give fuel to a legal representative is a time-earned skill. For instance, if a student has trouble focusing on his/her work, I try to push them for short periods of intense study, and then reward them with a break. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and feel that they each have their own individual learning style. At times, I feel that conventional educational methods may fail some children. Educators must learn to be flexible, and allow students to learn in the style that they feel most comfortable. I enjoy tutoring enough to do it for free, which I have done for my friends from time to time. I’m a friendly laid back person who loves to learn and help others learn, particularly in a one on one setting. I’m quite good at breaking a subject down into an understandable step by step process and making sure they not only know the answers, but how and why they got the answers. During my time with the program I helped to establish several tutoring programs, one at FM and another at Amsterdam High School for the Upward Bound Grant funded program. All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. A higher level student would solve multiple linear equations. A height vs. time linear relationship then can become quadratic, thus involving sports as an application.
