A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching all types of Mathematics for 30 years from Elementary up to college. Presently, I am a full time high school math teacher teaching Algebra I and II and AP Calculus. This includes teaching students who are going to take ASVAB and SAT exams. I have been chose teacher of the year several years. For a long period of time, I have a very close to 100 percent passing Standard of Learning math Test including Ap Calculus College Exam. Aside from being a teacher, I also serve as Department Chairperson of the Math Department.

I have always had the macroscopic view of mathematics (from basic algebra to advanced calculus) to know how everything fits together. If students could learn simply by having a textbook read to them, then there would be no need for teachers. I am a recent honors graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil and environmental engineering. This course of academic study exposed me to a broad range of upper-level mathematics, physics, and chemistry. The chance to tutor peers in high school was the initial spark towards considering education as a career. During my undergraduate studies the desire has grown as I was given the opportunity in the role of Teaching Assistant. I found from those experiences that I have an ability to gauge a student’s comprehension of the material during sessions.
