I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. For example, if we are learning Le Chartelier's Princlple, which concerns the response of a chemical reaction to stress, I have my students discuss the types of stress they experience, and their responses. We compare this to the beautifully precise and appropriate reaction in Chemistry, where the response is never inapproriate, insufficent or in excess.
