Teach to Encourage

I consider my self very hands-on.
My teaching career started as an elementary school teacher. I've been teaching for 11 years now. I've also taught adult education for six years at Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD STUDENT!

A person who has strong negative feelings about learning is automatically hindered in any learning environment. I first gain the trust of my students, and then start to build an appreciation for learning in their minds. Once that process has begun, I inject a sense of humor, a sense of patience, and a great deal of love into my teaching.
I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years. I have taught all subjects in elementary school, English, history, and mathematics in middle school, and English composition and literature in high school. Additionally, I have taught mass communication and creative writing in high school. I have taught remedial English, freshman composition, and technical writing on a collegiate level. One of my specialties is helping students to overcome the difficulties in passing standardized tests such as iLEAP, ACT/SAT, GED, and ASVAB. My 27 years in the army ... read more

COLLEGE STUDENT WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE

I have finished many of my math classes through high school with A's. I absolutely love writing stories and essays. The lowest grade I have receives on any writing assignment was a B. I have tutored many of times before and my students did extremely well. One student started with me with a grade of D in math and picked it up to an A.
I love to make things interesting. I struggled with science in middle school and required a tutor. This person didn't make learning the subject fun, so from there I decided that with everything students learn a little fun should be involved. As soon as the student becomes stressed, I do some kind of physical activity with them to make them feel better.

Elementary Reading is one of my top subjects!

Hello everyone (: I am currently a senior student at a university, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education 1-5, graduating on May 2015. I have had several tutoring experiences throughout the last few years, and I am currently enrolled in the Volunteer in Public Schools (VIPS) program and will begin tutoring mathematics in the near future. My tutoring experience has consisted of public schools pertaining to a variety of subject areas. I would be great tutor to chose because I am a knowledgeable and passionate about the field of education. Texas Certified Teacher: Early Childhood thru 5th Grade

I taught Early Childhood and Elementary school, grades Pre-K through 5th, in the Houston Independent School District for 10 years. I mostly taught 1st grade. It is amazing to see them progress and learn, from non readers to readers, from non writers to story writers. Since I moved to Baton Rouge I continued tutoring children struggling academically in the areas of Math, Reading, Language Arts, Spanish, and Social Studies.
The relationship that I and your child will have will be based on mutual respect, and I will ensure that your child's academic specific needs will be my focus. Each child has a different way to learn. As a trained and certified teacher I find ways that my students can grasp the concepts and learn. I believe that concepts should be learned first on a concrete level, using hands on strategies. Once they "get it", we can move on to more abstract ways to understand.
