I have throughout my entire grade school career been both a tutor and a mentor. As young as in nine years old in fourth grade I was selected to tutor kindergarten children in mathematics. As I grew older, I continually tutored my peers in a multitude of subjects, math being the prominent and my best subject. In my junior year of high school, I was personally selected to mentor and tutor at risk middle school aged children at the partnered junior high. The program I was in was specifically for high school seniors who applied and made it, when one applicant dropped out, I was their first choice as a replacement because of my excellent grades, behavioral record and proven responsibility. I have worked for an after school program for the past five years. In this position I was able to tutor students and help them with their homework. The experience I have is with students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. I did my student teaching in a preschool and a 2nd grade classroom. In the after school program and the student teaching experience I helped students with all school subjects including english, math, science, social studies and reading. I pride myself on helping students have fun while learning. I believe that if a student is not enjoying themselves they will not learn. As a teacher I use a hands-on approach to give the students a realistic approach to learning. All students can learn and as a teacher I feel it is my job to bring the best out of any child. As a graduate from Tennessee Tech University, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Elementary Education. My field experience during college (practicum assignments and student teaching) allowed me to work with a broad range of children – from kindergarten to fifth grade. During my time as a student teacher in a small private school setting, I also worked one-on-one with students who needed additional assistance in math. This is my second year teaching third grade in Clarksville, as well as my second year teaching in the Before School Program, which allows me to tutor 7-8 students each morning.
