I have always been passionate about communications and teaching. I began tutoring mathematics in High School and during my undergraduate schooling I mentored and tutored introductory university level physics, calculus, chemistry, and organic chemistry. I am currently in graduate school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine studying Molecular Biology and Genomics but remain informally interested in mathematics and physics.
I adjust to the student/learner as I am told or discover their learning preferences. However, in my experience and research, I have noticed that active learning and discovery-based learning are arguably most effective mechanisms for knowledge retention. Therefore, I make considerable efforts to implement these styles into my teaching.

Every child can learn, so every child deserves to learn.

I teach in the way of Scaffolding. I give the learner all the assistance they need until they no longer need it any more. I start by giving a lot of cues and help with each step. Then I slowly take the training wheels off and each time, I let them show me more and more what they can do with out the help. I hope to create leaders.
I have been teaching children younger than myself since I started teaching Sunday school classes and became a adolescent influence in my previous youth group. I new all along I was going to be a teacher. I have been tutoring my younger nephews since they are now in grade level courses. I have also had experience in the classroom as observing mentor teachers and assisting them in lesson plan creations. I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
