Structured yet creative Reading Specialist.

I received my bachelor degree in elementary education. After having my two daughters, I went to graduate school and achieved a masters degree as a Reading Specialist. My comments on tutoring Geography : For three summers, I taught geography to gifted middle school students for Johns Hopkins.

Students being tutored one-on-one deserve lessons customized to their learning style. My sessions often incorporate some writing and topic discussion along with activities tailored to the student's interests, skill development needs and preferences.
This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with children and understanding their perceptions of the given subject matter. This often results in a personal, in-depth level of conversation normally not available to most students. It has only been about five years since I was a high school student myself, and I find that it is generally very easy for me to communicate with students on a personal level, as a friend rather than from a distance as only a hired instructor. I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.
