Former substitute teacher in K-12 for five years. Former head on Lucas County Computer center for five years. Current tutor and advocate for special needs students. Taught my son with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other disabilities when the school system did not give him any chance of success. While at Wayne State University, I studied Geography, Urban Studies and the Italian language. When I graduated, I held a BA in Geography with minors in Urban Studies and Italian. During my education at Wayne, as I gained a good knowledge of the Italian language, I started to tutor lower-level students. In the end, I tutored Italian for one and a half years.
I am a very easy-going individual; I don't like to push too much but am encouraging. The way I think teaching Italian works best is to make associations with the English language. The two languages are so heavily intertwined, but not at face value. After learning Italian, my knowledge of English is much more profound. Tutoring is very rewarding to me and making a difference in someone's life is important.

A Little Bit About Me...

I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes. I love teaching students of all ages and I recognize that most students do not get the help they need during the school day, which is why it is important for them to get the help they need outside of class. Each student learns differently and it is important for me to figure out a way that works best for him or her so that I can instill the techniques that will help them throughout their entire educational career.
