I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. I have had several years experience of teaching throughout my schooling from college education, personal experience-being the oldest child/grandchild, daily experiences, and now being a parent of a young child. I graduated summa cum laude in the Honors College at Missouri State with a degree in cell and molecular biology and extensive studies in math and physics. I have been working as a private tutor in math and science for 10 years, working with students in upper elementary through college. Since graduating from Missouri State in the fall of 2009 with my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish education I have been substituting with Sparta schools and Republic schools. I have also been tutoring a student in Spanish. I completed my student teaching in the fall of 2009 with Ozark High School and Springfield Catholic School. Before then I spent several years working with kids at book festivals and in Mexico through Second Baptist Church. I also tutored special needs children at Ozark North Elementary during my high school years. After graduation I taught Art and pre-school classes for the Springfield, MO Parks Dept. I was a librarian at the Springfield Art Museum. I worked for the Dept. of Social Services, Div. of Youth Services for 14 years and assisted the teachers with the education ciriculum.
