My teaching style allows for the student to have a lot of self-revelation through answering leading questions, practicing hands on when applicable, and reviewing of mistakes—I find it is very helpful to not ‘erase’ a problem when a mistake has been made but to instead circle the mistake and begin again, the error is watching to ensure the error is not repeated. Math should be READ first, understanding that the last part of the challenge in the equation is usually the calculations. Words used in mathematics often have the same meaning as when used outside of a mathematical situation or scenario, and it is the definition that will aide in remembering the formula. Solve ALL your problems with a math tutor!

I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance.
While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then.
