My comments on tutoring Russian : Native speaker of Russian with Master's Degrees earned in Russian and in English

I have been tutoring students of Russian for 7 years, on and off. Russian, quite frankly, is a difficult tongue to learn in adulthood, with its sprawling grammar system and many changing word endings; I believe that vocabulary generation and sentence construction are should be prioritized over grammar during early stages of learning so that student become active user of the language early on. I take every measure to help students feel active and empowered rather than overwhelmed by an alien hostile force; students are encouraged to be intuitive and creative with whatever vocabulary they have already internalized rather than be paralyzed by rigid adherence to the quite onerous grammar.

A Little Bit About Me...

Being of Russian origin, my methods of explanation may be a little different from what students are used to here. I relate and connect very easily with students and try to put any subject into practical application and explain why is it important to know. Overall in my tutoring/teaching experience, I had a lot of success with my students of various ages. Even the "hard cases" began to show results in a few sessions.
