Composition is one of my top subjects! As a professional librarian with a major in English and American literature, I have extensive experience in writing and composition. This includes writing poetry (from age six) and short stories, journals, educational guides used in staff training at the NYS Library, and grant applications. As a parent I provided many innovative opportunities for my daughter to explore and succeed in creative writing and fundamental composition from an early age.

After six years of social work experience as a caseworker for Westchester County Department of Social Services where I worked extensively with families and children with special needs, I returned to college to receive my Master's degree in Library and Information Science. A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past year, I have tried to extend my ability to share my love and appreciation of English and literature with others. As an English/Communications major, I am very knowledgable in a variety of subjects including grammar, writing composition and reading comprehension. Last year, as President of the Writers Forum, we spent several months tutoring as part of an after school program where we helped children in Baltimore write.
For writing, usually I conduct some exercises. The level of the critique and what to say depends heavily on the age of the student.
