I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Although I have used Expert and Formal formats, I prefer to incorporated Personal and Facilitator styles. Personal establishes a prototype for how to think and behave. It oversees, guides, and directs by showing how to do things. Facilitator guides and directs students by asking questions, exploring options, suggesting alternatives. After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. I have twenty-one graduate hours in Reading and eleven graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. My previous work experience had me working with families where one adult was in need of a GED. During my studies at SUNY Buffalo I tutored in Regents Math which I also took when I was in high school. In Virginia Tech I was a Graduate Research Assistant. I ran Aerospace Engineering labs, assigning work to undergraduate students which I graded. I was available for multiple hours per week assisting students in their homework and lab reports. Since then I have been a math tutor in calculus. Engineering requires a solid understanding of math from the basics such as algebra and geometry to more difficult calculus and linear algebra. What I have learned in both mathematics and physics is used almost on a daily basis which is why I know the subjects so well.
