I teach in patterns and find methods to make things easier for the student to learn. This is how I learn everything. I will explain what I am tutoring until the student totally understands. I have a lot of patience and a lot of compassion for helping students learn what they do not understand, and I am good at it. I am very good at tutoring in English, English as a Second Language, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, basic math, especially percentages and fractions, I can tutor very basic algebra, Business English, Spanish, Machine Calculations, Keyboarding I and II, which is Beginning and Intermediate Typing, how to use the computer (search the Internet, use the mouse, keyboard, Microsoft Word, and things of that nature. I've always been drawn to the creativity and knowledge needed to use writing in very powerful and effective ways. I earned my bachelor's degree, taking classes that focused on writing for both stage and screen as well as a multitude of writing and reading comprehension classes in a wide range of subjects both academic and creative: theatre, english, literature, poly-sci, astronomy, anthropology, journalism, etc. While my education might suggest I'm only a playwright or poet, my extensive training has been extremely academic as well. I strive to make connections to real life by using real specimens when possible, familiar situations, manipulatives, current events, and such to facilitate comprehension. I found from tutoring college students having difficulties with complex concepts such as protein synthesis, DNA replication, photosynthesis, and meiosis, that for all students, “hands on” can be a very helpful, and ultimately a more efficacious and expedient, way to teach. It can not only be a welcome and refreshing change/respite from the ‘usual textbook and ditto’ drill, but also helps by illustrating complex processes and concepts in a basic comprehensible manner first; I then add the more difficult material to the ‘firmer’ foundation.
