A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring as a volunteer with the America Reads program in high school. I continued volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club during college. After an opportunity to assist a professor in administering a freshman course, I applied to teach high school in Pasco County. I taught world history and psychology for one year before returning to school for my Master of Arts degree in History. I continued tutoring on the side, but spent most of my time assisting professors in the Department of History at Winthrop University as a Graduate Assistant where I edited exams and papers for undergraduate students. During the last year of my program, I worked with an SES program in South Carolina, tutoring both reading and math.

I excelled as a 'teaching' team leader as a student of the Business Management program at the University of Phoenix. I earned my bachelor's degree graduating with a 3.45 GPA. While taking the lead on team-based assignments, I developed a passion for teaching. Assisting others in creating persuasive essays, attention-gripping novels and intellectually researched term papers became a challenge I learned to embrace and enjoy. I tutored many fellow students during my college career in grammar, creative writing, language arts and English. I enjoy teaching and enjoy sharing my knowledge with everyone. Everyone can learn and I believe some learn different than others. I believe in patience and different teaching styles. For some, hands-on techniques works better while for others, a traditional learning style along with dedication may suffice. Whatever the approach may be, a supportive and fun atmosphere helps enhance the learning experience.
As a graduate student earning a Master's degree, I have always worked very hard. In high school, I graduated with honors and throughout the journey of both degrees, I have always maintained at least a 3.5 GPA. I have always excelled in math. I enjoy reading and I would like to have an opportunity to shine that light on everyone through tutoring. I have tutored friends and family members for quite some time and I am currently tutoring.

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
