First and foremost, I love working with students. I believe all students have an ability to learn once you find the way to connect with them. I think the key is in finding that particular connection because each student is gifted in his or her own special way. All people learn differently, and I approach teaching with this understanding and appreciation of the differences in all students and their backgrounds. I think students benefit from a sort of structured guidance that sets them on the right path to learning the material but gives them the room and freedom to feel a sense of empowerment through their own discovery of the embedded lessons. I like to observe children to determine what learning styles best fit their personalities and strengths. I believe in the capabilities of all children, when their teachers find the proper ways to motivate and support their learning. I find that building a trusting relationship in which students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking critically are best for making gains.
I have been a classroom teacher for the past four years in both elementary and middle school. Both of my parents are educators, so I spent a great deal of time tutoring and volunteering in schools prior to my teaching career. I also have a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. My strengths are in the areas of language arts, reading, and social sciences.
