Love to watch students learn and succeed!

I have been a special education instructional paraprofessional for the past eight years. I worked for 2 years in elementary education and the past twelve years have been with high school students. I love helping struggling students learn and succeed in their education. Math is my specialty but I can also tutor in Reading, Social Studies, and Science. Over time I have figured out different teaching styles for my students who struggle with understanding. I love watching my students faces light up when they really get it!

My comments on tutoring Science : Physical science

I received a B.S. in Chemistry and an minor in Mathematics and eventually took enough hours to hold a teaching certificate to teach secondary Math and Science. I taught Chemistry for 16 of my 19 years and also Math, Physics, and Digital Electronics for a few years. I learned a great deal about various teaching modalities through my years of teaching and I believe I can be a successful tutor in Chemistry. Presently, I am enrolled in a Masters program in IT/Project Management and the knowledge I have gained in this program will help me in the area of tutoring. I find nothing better than seeing a student succeed.
I understand that everyone learns differently. I learn best through visual and hands on , yet I know a large number of people learn orally. I have developed through my 19 years of teaching experiences ways to teach to all the different types of learning styles. While I ... read more

Learning is a journey. I have a map but you have the wheels

I believe the best way to learn is to ask questions. The best thought process begins with asking the right questions. As a student, I find that knowing the right question was often as important as right answer. Taking this lesson into teaching, I find that getting the student to ask the right question makes all the difference in their understanding. My perspective of teaching is to help the student to find and better understand their own question and which leads the correct answers.
As a lifelong learner I understand the importance of an effective teacher. I have been teaching and assisting college level classes for 2 years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. During this time I have taught 6 classes consisting of introductory microbiology, microbial genetics and general biology. This experience has allowed me to develop my own teaching style and led to a greater understanding of both ... read more

Knowledge has come from observation and describing it.

Taught English in private school in Paris, France, Honduras, geography at Lakeland College, Mattoon, Illinois, Houston International University, Houston Independent School District, Houston Junior College, Five universities in China, Fatih Kolegi, Istanbul Turkey. I have written four books on the inside of history, three books on English going back to the origin of English in 1374 from German, French, Latin, and Greek. In this way I present the complex phonics of English while its simpler grammar facilita thited its becoming the international language. Using this method, it is easier for students to learn other European languages. I attended 8 universities for a total of ten years for certification in various fields of education. When I was in high school ,I had a passion for physics.I realized that I should know more about the subject,so I took my bachelor degree in physics .Along with physics I studied electronics and mathematics.I really believe that I enjoyed each and every moment of my science lessons and because of that I was honored as the First Rank holder in my university. While doing my masters degree in the same university ,my professors gave me opportunity to know my physics better by asking me to take classes for the undergraduate kids. That was really an honor to me. I had to take a break when I had my kids and its my dream to teach science ,which Iam sure I'll make it happen. So I started again my career by volunteering in cornado high school.
I believe that there is a scientist in each and everyone of us.everyone is different, all of us are good at something or the other.I believe if we are good ... read more

One of my key strengths as a science and math teacher is that after receiving BS & MS chemistry degrees, I’ve spent over 20 years as an industrial scientist (Allied Signal Aerospace, Eastman Kodak, & Ford). A common thread throughout this time has been to recognize the value of a good work ethic, character, and thriving on being a problem solver. After becoming a teacher (4 years ago), I’ve developed a passion for motivating “at-risk” and advanced students to learn through adept usage of differentiation, rigorous content, and experiential teaching techniques. I especially enjoy doing so one-on-one with individuals! I leave with a favorite quote from Albert Einstein; “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”
I tend towards a "supporting /coaching" style when teaching. Although there is no one best style for all situations, this style highlights the v ... read more

I have a PhD in Microbiology and dual majored in college to obtain a BS in both Biomedical Science and Health Chemistry. As a result, I have a wealth of knowledge in the areas of science and mathematics. I also have extensive experience writing and editing grant proposals and research papers and understand well the mechanics of the English language. I have mentored numerous colleagues in areas ranging from biological and chemical concepts to experimental techniques to presentation of results in my 14-year career as a laboratory scientist.
I enjoy sharing knowledge of science with people of all ages. Many people find science to be intimidating, but I believe that once a person gets past the vocabulary barrier, the concepts of science are less overwhelming. One of my strengths is distilling scientific knowledge from the incomprehensible to concepts that anyone can understand. Most pe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past four years I have been working at The Children's ARK-A residential treatment facility for at-risk youth. I was a teaching assistant my first year and I have been teaching for the last three years all content areas and subjects for grades 5-8. As for my educational background, I am currently on a TTE (Temporary Teaching license)and I will have my SPED generalist permanent license in May. Also, I will have an added endorsement and a Master's degree this summer 2010. I currently hold a B.A. in Psychology and that degree has proved to be very helpful with working with children with emotional issues.
I believe that it is the teacher's job to discover the true learning style of their students and when we do it is like unlocking a treasure chest of gold, so to speak. I enjoy teaching all the subjects in school and I enjoy the challenge of teaching children with learning disab ... read more
