A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in two Arkansas public schools in the area of Special Education for the last 20 years. For over half of my career I have been employed as a special education designee/ consultant. I have also completed the Barton Reading and Spelling System training and work with several students. I am in love with how fast this system works to close gaps. I currently am employed as a special education designee where I tutor a few students in Barton, teach and supervise the special education teachers and work on due process compliance. I have three children of my own with sensory, attention, hyperactivity and learning problems. I understand how hard it is on both the children and the parents when there is no clear path to success.
There is so much joy in success, no matter how small or how hard to obtain. It is always to be celebrated!!!!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always expressed an interest in the education field since graduating high school. I earned my AA as well as my BA while serving on active duty in the Army. I was in the military for 8 years and recently seperated to persue a civilian career in order to be closer to my family. While I was in the military I found myself in leadership positions as well as instructor positions throughout varies activities in my career. I am currently in the process of receiving my Masters in Education with a Curriculum Development degree.
I very much enjoy teaching in a setting where the students feel comfortable enough to both learn and express themselves. I always find a higher success rate in the understanding and comprehension of the subject at hand under these circumstances. My philosophy of education is a student centered one. I strongly relate to the adage of serving as the “guide on the side” rather than the “sage on the stage.” I believe in focusing on individual needs, involving and motivating the students in the process of their learning. Their individual differences need to be recognized, respected, and even celebrated. I believe that all students have strengths, and that it is the goal of the teacher to assist them to identify and build upon these.
