My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Having taken Calculus in high school as well as college with grades of A, I have extensive learning, training and thorough understanding of Calculus I, Calculus II and Calculus III. Similarly, I have self-taught Calculus IV as well. While I was at college, I used to help my friends with their homework, practice and concept development to perform better in their tests. I was consistently the best student. After completing Calculus sequence, I started tutoring the course to junior students at various levels. While Calculus involves a lot of limits, derivatives, integrations, functions, vectors, trigonometry and algebra, it is not limited to only those areas.

Holding a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics, I have knowledge of both Mathematics and its application to Economics as well as other real world situations. I have advanced experience on tutoring high school students and college students in courses like PreCalculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Combinatorics and Probability, Econometrics, Calculus I, Calculus II and Calculus III and MicroEconomics and MacroEconomics as well as International Economics. I have also worked as a teaching assistant at Oglethorpe University. While I was in university, I was consistently given excellent feedback. I was a high demand tutor in both Mathematics and Economics. Although, I only had four regular hours a week, I used to get more than seven hours of extra hours per week. Some of the reasons are I give students simple and real world examples to help them understand complex ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my life I have helped many people excel in different mathematical levels. I have helped young kids learn basic addition facts as well as teaching college level students calculus. As I was helping a student prepare for a test at my university, she proposed the idea of becoming a tutor as a job. I have had success teaching people I personally know, so I want to be able to expand my tutoring services to everyone.
Math is a difficult subject for many people. I am very patient and keep a positive attitude through the entire time.

My 20+ year teaching career began in high school when I ran an after-school tutoring program. At the University of Georgia I tutored for the chemistry and biology departments. I earned a BS in Genetics and a Masters of Education. I taught biology, physical science, ecology, and human anatomy in 2 public high schools in Georgia. I have recently renewed my Georgia Teaching Certificate for grades PK-5 and 7-12.
I am very much a hands-on instructor. Long ago, I heard the Chinese Proverb “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” These words embody my personal teaching philosophy. What makes me a great tutor is my patience and understanding of a student in need. I believe all children are capable of success but sometimes may need a little extra help to get there. My teaching style is one of comparisons and analogies. Sometimes students just do not understand the mathematical terms. For this reason, I compare problems to something the student is familiar with, allow them to see the connection to the problem at hand and then guide them to solving the problem. This strategy has proven to be very successful and I've often had students tell me "You make it seem so easy!"

My teaching style is dependent on the student. It is not difficult for me to determine what kind of learning style a person. For example, if the student is a visual learner then I will make sure I use many diagrams and pictures. If the student is a audible learner then I will make sure I repeat steps several times. I can explain same concept in various ways. I am patient and considerate of others needs. I enjoy teaching and helping others reach their goals.

I like working with students.i think that a tutor should review over the day to day lesson (course)with the student, practice the application and then treat the tasks with the gradual difficulties. The patience and the repetition are the keys of a successful tutoring.I think that the tutor must develop a certain feeling and a logic from his student towards the maths(base of the science). The achievement is to step the student into the teacher`s shoes in order to be able to well understand by himself.

I take the assumption that everyone is at the same level and gradually introduce concepts and building blocks to get to a full understanding. During introduction, I encourage students to hold their questions briefly until I have explained the method and then invite questions. At this juncture, as I answer the questions, students are welcome to raise questions in between. Practice is the best teacher, I encourage participation from students so that they can retain more information as they talk and write. My idea is to make a student who understands the concept rather than make them memorize formula without knowing the building blocks. All my students should come out of class with a good idea of applied knowlegde so that they can be productive decision makers where ever they may go.
I realized in my career life that I was always training new and experienced staff with so much ease. A ... read more
