For three years at Geneva College (2007-2010) I served as a math tutor, tutoring underprivileged, unmotivated, underachieving students at the local high school. Although I loved mentoring the young adults, unfortunately because of relocation back to Maine I was unable to continue the job. Finally for another 3 years I worked as a junior high and high school math tutor in high school. Once again I was unable to keep this due to relocation to college but I learned a lot and look forward to continuing my tutoring career.
I love teaching and interacting with all students, although my preference is junior high and high school as I have helped out in these areas before. As a current graduate student I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the effective techniques and skills it takes for one to succeed within the classroom. I have so far earned my BS in Clinical Psychology and am currently working on my Masters in Business Administration, which have both given me a much greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of organization, promptness, and communication as each pertains to being a successful student. A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone has their own way of learning. The key is to figure that way out and use it to their advantage. If the person is a slow learner, then a slower approach is necessary. If the person is a fast learner, then a faster approach is required.
I did tutoring as a high school student. I tutored other students in math. The tutoring program also placed me in kindergarten and first grade classes to help the teacher where needed. I have two children that are always asking how to do things. In addition, I have tutored adult friends for the GED test and the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). I have finished the Income Tax Course with H&R Block at the end of 2010.

A Little Bit About Me...

While in college I earned a GPA of 3.239. I received an associates in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting. I also distinguished myself by being on the dean's list for four consecutive semesters. I was also a peer tutor, working for the college. In the workplace I wound up being the first person in the history of the company (Biddeford Textile Corporation) to hold two management positions at the same time. I trained and supervised many fellow employees in operation of computer hardware and software.
I am patient and easy going. I believe that a person has to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them, and frankly sometimes a classroom setting does not meet their individual needs. Everyone can learn, and be successful once they know what works for them.

Children learn in different way, and have different levels of enthusiasm for different subjects. I think that the way to encourage a child's success is to identify the ways in which the students learns best, and to understand what subjects/topics interest them. If you can relate to a child, your ability to motivate them and encourage them is amplified. I like to challenge students and to encourage them to think on their own. I believe positive reinforcement is important to children whose self-esteem might be low due to perceived lack of academic ability.
