I have been working with kids of all ages for a long time. I love to see them learn and grow. That moment when they "get" something is magical! I spent the 2011-2012 school year teaching at a title 1 school in Collier County and have grown exponentially from it! I had several students in my class who needed special help, and half of my class were English language learners. These students have helped me to strengthen my skills and adapt to different student's styles.
I like to make teaching fun! If a student is bored they aren't going to be putting 100% into their work. I also use a positive reward system and celebrate all achievement. Even if it is minor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I define teaching as the process by which I help students to learn. I guide learning by helping students individually, at other times instructing an entire class, and still at other times by encouraging class participation. Spontaneity is a valued part of teaching. If the teaching appears memorized, not spoken diaphragmatically, not spoken with eye contact, and if there are no visual aids, learning will likely not take place. Learning is, of course, the main purpose of education. It is the goal of every student and the task of every teacher to increase knowledge and understanding in the classroom. I feel that the concept of learning should be focused around four main areas. Independent thought is essential to the development of each student. Being able to form unique independent ideas to solve problems will serve them both in and outside of the classroom. Group interaction is also an imp ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

My teaching style is flexible, tailored to the specific needs of the student in question. Everybody learns differently and at different paces!
I've been a teacher's unofficial little helper since I was in Elementary, helping the students of my class that the teacher simply didn't have the extra time to help. From then on, I helped and even eventually taught my younger siblings when the current school system left them in the dust, and even helped them get a leg up and advance faster than their classmates. I've tutored a few younger kids in various subjects in my high school years, as well as occasionally teaching Taekwondo classes.

I have many years experience working with, tutoring, and advising children and young adults. I believe that children are very individual in their learning capabilities and can reach their fullest potential if they are given an appropriate and supportive environment to learn.
I graduated with a BS degree from the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. In the last year I have started tutoring children, mainly in elementary school subjects. Throughout my work history, I have had many opportunities to work with and advise children and young adults through my positions as a case worker, a tutor, and volunteer mentor. I currently work as a financial representative, where my primary focus is to complete a current financial analysis for new clients and help them develop a personal financial plan to meet their goals and objectives. My teaching style is best described as adaptive. We all learn differently, some more so by doing, others by seeing or listening, and others by thinking it through. Learning is a combination of processes, emphasizing what works best. For me, the approach is to use what works best for the student to learn what needs to be learned, with the underlying objective of the student learning how to learn - meaning a self-awareness of what works best for him or her. The tough learning is slugging it through the stuff that we just don’t seem to get or seems to have no value in our future lives. One book I’ve always liked is “The Memory Book” by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas for the varied approaches for using our brains.
My teaching experience has been both formal and informal. I’ve been a teaching assistant to college undergraduates, an instructor in management studies and also an i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer a very one on one style where I can figure out where the student currently is in the subject. I like to try to cater my teaching style to each students personality so that learning can be easy and fun.
I often tutored fellow students through my high school career. I mostly focused on Reading, English, History and Science. Rarely did I tutor in Mathematics. I received my Educational Paraprofessionals certification in May of 2009, scoring one point shy of perfect. The certification allows me to be a teachers assistant in side classrooms in Lee County Florida.
