I believe all children have the ability/aptitude to learn the information given to them, but it's the way that information is presented that will stay with your child forever. I feel it is my job to not only present this same information to your child in a new way, but to, in essence, teach your child how to learn and teach themselves. Almost all Math processes can be broken down into steps, and putting those steps together, like climbing stairs, will get your child to the top.

While I perfectly respect all of these new theories and methods of both teaching and learning, it must not be forgotten that each student is unique in their style and commitment. Otherwise, they would not need tutoring! Creativity and patience are the keys to discovering the specific style that best suites the student. That being said, I do of course have a "style". I have always wanted to teach but enjoyed the research that was available working for a large chemical company. I had the opportunity to teach Organic while I was working and enjoyed it but the time constraints were tough. I am now retired from industry and will be teaching in the Chemistry Department at the University of West Florida. I am very enthusiastic about chemistry and that comes through in my teaching and tutoring. I have made a very good living doing something I love to do and that is reflected in my teaching style.

I have always been a quick learner when it comes to mathematics. It is something that comes almost natural to me. With that said, I understand that this is not the case for everyone. I feel that a good majority of people hate math because they don't understand math, and because they don't understand math right away, they don't try to understand it. I had a wise professor once tell me, "Math isn't difficult; there is no such thing as difficult math. It just seems difficult because you haven't learned it yet". I think math can be easy for anyone, they just have to learn it first.

This way no matter what the professor asks they will know how to answer questions and ace exams. If they just memorize things, they can get confused and get answers distorted.
