A Little Bit About Me...

I have been actively involved with college tutoring for 4 years and during that time I rose to Senior tutor. I assisted students with mathematics, from pre algebra to Calc III, physics, and engineering courses. This was primarily one on one tutoring but I have also been involved in some classroom based programs. I have recently graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology's Electromechanical Engineering program. It is a unique degree with a heavy focus on design and includes systems engineering courses. The program must pass both mechanical and electrical engineering accreditation.
I am capable of teaching math, physics, or engineering courses. My teaching style involves focusing on real world applications and judging answers for realism. I also try to imbue the students with an understanding of the material beyond simple memorization.

While pursuing my Engineering degree at Roger Williams University, I noticed that there were not too many students from low income families attending college. That is why I joined Bridge to Success Program on January 2001. BTS was a program, sponsored by Roger Williams University at the time, which focused in assisting and encouraging students from low income families as well as minorities. I served as a mentor for five years in the program. I helped a number of students go into college and helped them improved their grades in math and science. Thorough my dedication and commitment, I was awarded the mentor of the year award in 2004. It has been by far one of the most honorable acknowledgments I have received.

I'm patient and listen to the student to see what they get and don't get about the premise of the lesson. Then we get to it. Careful reinforcement of the Correct method will ensure Remembrance and Results. Also, Lessons must be approached within the context of the Big Picture. Students need to realize that there are no pointless or forgettable sections. Basically, communication is key followed by practice, reinforcement, more practice. Learning can be at pace, but laziness and whining will not be tolerated.
I have a Bachelor of Art in History, predominantly American. I also pursued Engineering for my first year and plan to go back to College. I have completed through Calculus II and am also experienced in hands-on mechanical. I have limited tutoring experience, but I know I can listen and respond.
