I am a recent graduate from SUNY ESF with a passion for education. I am proficient in many fields of science, ranging from earth science to limnology. Although I've never professionally tutored, I have experience teaching middle school groups about aquatic entomology and forest ecology at Clark's Reservation. I have taken several classes where I learned to design lesson plans and how to properly communicate with varying age groups.
My teaching style reflects the way I learn best. I find that hands on learning is by far the most effective, a fun educational memory is much easier to recall than a set of hard facts.

I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I have substituted in every major subject at the high school level. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching study skills and business english at a local college.
I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. Learning and teaching is my passion. In high school it ws teachers with the same passion that made learning fun and encouraged me to achieve academic success. Most any subject can be made interesting if approached the right way. Mostly it is about patience and good respectful communication. I especially cherish working with young children who are usually starving for real knowlege, but are lacking the opportunity to engage their minds in a meaningful way.
