A Little Bit About Me...

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

As a visual learner and instructor, I believe the best way for children to retain information is by breaking down the task itself and visualizing it in stages/phases. Often times children feel overwhelmed by the countless lessons taught inside the classroom, resulting in defeated attitudes and poor grades. With respect to my teaching style, I liken it to a series of books written by Isaac Asimov entitled, Understanding Physics. These books have little math but explain the physical concepts in a story-like fashion. I find this very important because many physics books and instructors put too much emphasis on the mathematics and not enough on conveying the physical concepts. The result is a student who is unable to solve physics problems. First, the student must know the physical concept which then enables them to apply the correct mathematics in order to solve the problem. Mathematics is an art in itself but is simply a tool to solve physics problems.
