A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. Finally, it is critical to find a way for the student to relate to the material in a way they understand. Each person is different and the teaching style should reflect that; not everyone fits nicely into a cookie cut template of learning. Every person has the potential to learn anything as long as the opportunity is fairly presented – as a parent of a special needs child, this is something I know very well.

I really enjoy teaching and working with people of all ages. I believe everyone is able to grasp the concept of math and science when taught effectively and with patience. I am a very easy going and friendly person, and I have been told I explain things with enough detail to understand, but not too much to bog down the information. I enjoy working with students and hope that my assistance will improve their mathematics skills and also have a better appreciation for it. I try to make the problems fun and realistic and give analogies to everyday living. Often I present a variety of brainteasers to put further spark in the class session. My students always enjoyed my classes. They have that smile on their faces when talking with me in later years. I like challenges and teaching provides that experience to me and my students.
