I have been teaching in various forms for over ten years. I was a teaching assistant for four semesters in graduate school. I mentored and tutored people during my time as a Naval officer. I worked for Kaplan Inc for about a year, teaching almost all of their tests, including SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. I taught mathematics and statistics at Parkland College for three years. I obtained Secondary Teacher Certification in Social Sciences. I taught high school and middle school Spanish for two and half years at public schools, and completed my student teaching at an alternative school for juvenile criminals. I graduated with a BS in Physics from U of I. Returning for grad school after the Navy, I earned my M.S. in Physics and did advanced work before deciding not to pursue a Ph.D. In the Navy I spent two years as an instructor at Naval Submarine School. During grad school, I taught Physics 211(Mechanics), 212(Electricity and Magnetism), 280(Nuc. Weapons and Arms Control), and 140(Physics for non-technical majors). I like to first ask students questions to help me understand where they are, what they specifically do and do not understand. This helps me to figure out how to help the student.
