My comments on tutoring Special Education : 5 years experience being a special education teacher. I am familiar with providing instruction in reading, writing, math, adaptive and social skills in a special education setting.

I have taught in the Mukilteo/Everett area for 5 years. I have worked as a special education teacher for students who spend most of their time in a general education classroom. My experience and background focuses on math, reading, writing/spelling, social/emotional, and behavior skills. During my years as a teacher I have worked to help develop and implement IEP (Individual Education Plans)
My teaching style is very student driven. I take students interest in account when helping them. A Little Bit About Me...

Over the last 15 years, I have worked in various different areas. First, I taught adult ESL, and had occasional tutoring gigs with Russian speakers learning English, and some English speakers learning Russian. Currently, I work as a special education teacher. Part of my job is to work in small ratios with honors students who have disabilities. This "study skills" class often requires one-on-one tutoring.
As it has evolved over the years, my teaching style has become a mix of facilitation and direct instruction, with the goal always being the student's making his own discovery. I was trained in the Socratic style, which seems to match well with inquiry-based learning, and that is how my classes usually end up. I introduce activities, then gradually release them to the students to lead.
