I have a good experience of tutoring hundreds of students over a decade period of time. I have tutored from first grade student to bachelors' degree students. I have formally taught students from grades four to ten for six months as a science teacher. Recently, I helped my wife in Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Lab and College Algebra. She got straight A's in them upgrading her GPA. Most importantly, my tutoring helped my students to uplift their self-esteem, confidence and to accept learning as a process which can be made more pleasant and simple. :)

I love helping students understand Math.

I like to break down whatever skill I'm teaching in the simplest form at first. This means explaining the concept of the skill in a way that the student can understand what it is we are trying to do. I also try to use a pictorial representation of the skill if that is needed. After that I'll show them how I work a problem with that particular skill so they can see firsthand what the thought process is and the steps that are needed to use that particular skill whether it is adding fractions or solving equations, etc. Then I'll give the student a problem to do on their own while I guide them through the steps. If they get off on a particular step I'll correct them immediately and get them on the right path. Once I feel they understand what is going on and how to work a problem, I'll give them a problem to do without me watching them and see if they can get the answer right by themsel ... read more

I own my own science consulting firm and like to dedicate a certain percentage of my time to education and public outreach projects including teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. I have taught high school and college students on and off since 1986 and have had several students go on to VERY successful careers, perhaps one of the best ways to evaluate ones ability as a teacher. My most recent success (2006-07) was a 7th grade C and B student who had straight A's after only two months of working together and finished 7th grade with straight A's. Her confidence level increased dramatically (as noted by her family and friends) and she now has set her sights on Harvard as a real possibility someday.
I tailor my teaching style to the student. Throughout the years I have recognized that each student has a different way of learning and I make it my goal to adapt to them, to try to reach them ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have extensive experience tutoring college students in mathematics and physics. I have acted as a teacher's assistant at New College of Florida and worked in the TCC math lab. I have also tutored these subjects privately.
I believe patience is key when teaching difficult concepts. I also strive to present ideas from varied perspectives. For example, many mathematical constructions can be understood either geometrically, algebraically, or analytically. If a student has trouble with one type of explanation, presenting an alternative technique often leads to a deeper understanding of the material.

I build on what they already know and use it to reach the next level. All kids can learn if you make it fun and interesting. While earning my degree in English, I developed teaching and communication skills through both curricular and extra-curricular experiences. As an intended Secondary Education minor, I took many classes in education, including a middle and high school practicum. I also tutored students in grammar and composition, as well as foreign students in conversational English. I strongly considered teaching as a profession after graduation, but I wanted to earn my law degree first. While studying for the LSAT, I took an online course, mastering test-taking skills in all three parts: logic “games,” analytical reasoning, and reading comprehension. Graduating summa cum laude from the University of Florida, with extensive work in research, analysis, and writing, these skills came easy to me. Currently, I am a teaching assistant for Legal Writing and Research and thoroughly enjoy helping 1L’s also ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was employed as a Physical Education, Pre-k Counts and After School Lead Teacher. I accepted this position because of the emphasis on helping youth develop their educational, emotional and social skills. My experience with Porter’s Daycare & Educational Center and several other organizations has afforded me the opportunity to become familiar with the many challenges, responsibilities and positive experiences while working with youth. My past experiences include numerous years of working with youth of various ages. As an elementary and pre-k counts teacher, I’ve had the opportunity to work with children who possess and present different observations and realities of life.
In my teaching positions, my goals and responsibilities were to provide a supportive, enriching and caring environment that allows children to play and learn at their own developmental pace. My enthusiasm, persev ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to help people of all ages with their math. It is really rewarding when you show someone how to solve their problems, and then see them smile and feel relieved. I am friendly, considerate, thorough, and easy going. My belief is that when the right methodology is used, math can be fun and anyone can learn. With good math skills, a student can achieve higher goals in life. Math teaches problem solving skills and logical thinking. I see math as a way to help people have a better life.
Due to the influence of my parents, who are both math educators, I have always wanted to teach. My first job was on the faculty of a teachers’ university in China, where I taught computer science courses. In 1996 I came to the United States to study mathematics, and earned a Master's degree from Indiana University. While I was studying at IU, I was a teaching assistant and also tutored during the ... read more

I truly enjoy the material that I teach, and I think that is why students enjoy learning from me. Often times students have anxiety about a subject, telling themselves that it is too difficult or too boring for them to master. I try to make learning fun by helping them see each math problem as a puzzle waiting to be solved. I go over the ground rules with them one step at a time, so that it is easier to understand. I believe that with patience and practice every student can learn. I strive to build confidence in my students. My satisfaction comes from seeing children understand concepts that they once thought were too difficult to comprehend.

My teaching style is mostly form-fitted to each child. I assess what level they are at, how quickly they learn, and what areas they need help in or should strengthen. I cannot stress the importance of patience when it comes to tutoring children, which I have an abundance of, having taught various ages. Also, having studied psychology, I understand that children are very sensitive to negative feedback. I have experience in how to give constructive criticism to children and how this can only encourage them to do better.
Although my bachelor's degree is in psychology, my interests throughout my education have been to study children; how they learn, how they think, and what I can do to help them better themselves. Because of this interest, I have tutored children for a couple of years some years back, and was recognized for my efforts. I have excelled in mathematics, English, and p ... read more
