A Little Bit About Me...

While obtaining my Master's degree I had the chance to study many different subjects as well as tutor student from Kindergarten to undergraduates in many areas of study. I received 2 Bachelors degrees in International Affairs and Art History and studied several different languages that will make me well rounded tutor. I am a mother of two school age children with entirely different learning styles and a college graduate who has tutored friends and family for the past 14 years. I believe that learning is an enjoyable process. I have tutored math, reading and writing from elementary school level to college level Algebra. Friends have sought my help to pass college entrance exams and to write essays. I have also aided my kids to advance in math and reading. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoyed tutoring while I was in college working in the math lab for three years. However, now that I have been actually teaching my very own students I have a better understanding of the basics of mathematics and I am a much better student myself.
I enjoy teaching and working with students. I now understand that all children learn on their own level and at their own pace. I am very easy going, but I insist that students do their homework and stay after school for extra help if they need it. I grade work off of understanding. It is not always finding the correct answer, but the process to get to the correct answer. I believe that a good teacher makes a good student and I strive to be that good teacher and student.

The most rewarding moment in my teaching career involved Emily, a college student who suffered an injury, leaving her with severe short term memory problems. She had great difficulty learning new math concepts. We could work on the same, problem over and over again and she wouldn’t remember completing it once, let alone a dozen times. I learned that word-for-word repetition was the best way to move ideas from Emily’s short term memory to her long term memory. After many hours working together, I received a phone call from an elated Emily telling me that she finally earned a B in College Algebra and couldn’t have done so without my help. The thing I love most about teaching is opening up someones eyes to something new and seeing the "wow" look on their faces. Sometimes certain subject matter is not always easy for a person to learn. I've always appreciated the teacher that went out of their way with a great amount of patience to make sure I understood. I take a lot from the amazing teachers I've had and would hope to be able to pass that on.
I began my higher education at Tallahassee Community College in 1997. After receiving my AA Degree I transferred to F.S.U where I majored in Criminology with a minor in Spanish and graduated in 2003. Since that time, I've worked as a legal assistant/paralegal with different law firms in town. Recently, I decided to return to school and received my certificate in Massage Therapy.
