As a double major in Mathematics (BA) and Computer Science (BA), I found myself facing many difficult problems in my four years at SUNY Geneseo. In such rigorous programs, both BA's helped me develop skills to attack and efficiently solve any problem that I encountered. Moreover, I improved and honed those skills working in the Computer Science Learning Center as a tutor for two years. I have tutored many different languages in low and high level classes - Java, Python, C, C++, MATLAB to name a few. In addition, I helped some students with low and high level Mathematics courses in those two years - when it was necessary for understanding.

Between my studies at Roberts Wesleyan College in the liberal arts field, where I earned a bachelors degree, and my studies in math and computational science I have an exceptionally broad knowledge base. My work experience further illustrates this having worked briefly as an English teacher in Prague as well as the various sales and customer service jobs I have had including Verizon Wireless, Wegmans, and Radio Shack.
I love working with people and teaching them about the things that I am passionate about. I am very patient and throughout and I have learned a lot of valuable techniques such as asking the right questions to confirm that the student has learned the lesson as well as planning out what the important points are that I need to cover. I firmly believe teaching requires structure. In that regard, the learning process requires a sequences of steps. Firstly, the student must understand the problem to be solved or the skill to be acquired. Secondly, examples are required to show how to approach and solve a prolem. Lastly, overarching concepts can be introduced to unitfy that which is new with that which is already understood. During my time at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I was a student grader while working towards my B.S. in Computational Mathematics. I obtained my degree with Highest Honors, and an overall GPA of 3.88. I graded mostly college algebra and early calculus. I was required to do the same homework and quizzes the students did, and create answer keys. Then, I would go through each problem and either give full credit for a correct answer and work, or partial credit if needed. By following their work, I was able to see where they made mistakes, and write in notes on what they needed to do. I will be returning to RIT for a second bachelor’s degree, in Industrial Engineering, which also requires a strong math background.
