A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved to teach, and loved to travel and meet new people. This led to traveling for a summer during college to Mexico City, living with a Spanish-speaking family. I also spent twelve weeks in West Africa teaching ESL and speaking French before my senior year at OBU. After graduation, I lived in Northern California (where I had also spent a summer during college), teaching ESL to adult Mexican immigrants, tutoring middle-school Korean students, and spending one summer in Southeast Asia while earning a Masters and TESL certificate. I now confidently teach ESL writing and grammar at a community college, as well as tutor children in ESL for a local public school. I also home school an advanced first grader.

Teaching has always been something that I've greatly enjoyed. Whether it was helping a special needs student read, or an undergraduate history student finish a term paper, I appreciate the opportunity to help others achieve academic success. When working with students, I exercise a great deal of patience. I am also a firm believer in allowing students to achieve their potential through hard work. I find the best way to do this is by asking questions that lead the student to the answer.
