Teaching has been something I have done a great deal of my life no matter what path I was on. When I was in nursing school, patient teaching was a strong point of mine. I love children. I am patient, kind and believe in utilizing intrinsic and extrinsic forms of lessons so that children develop a love of learning and see the short term rewards and long term rewards.My goal is to help a student succeed. I am currently heading for a BS in Elementary Education while I am home schooling my children. I have home school grades 6-11. I have accomplished raising reading levels within 6 months past 2 grades past level. I have tutored and home schooled children outside my own and have been asked to assist children with reading. I enjoy teaching children of all ages, but young children in particular because they are so excited about learning new things. I am patient and considerate of each child's individual learning style, and believe that instilling confidence in each child's individuality helps them become strong, confident adults. After graduating, I did substitute teaching for the rest of the school year, primarily in the Yukon School District. At that time, the market was flooded with new graduates with degrees in Elementary Education; therefore, I took a position working for the State of Oklahoma. I have always been the “go to” person at work whenever writing skills were required, and became known for my grammatical and spelling abilities. I have also been a mentor and trainer of other employees. I have been an avid reader all of my life and feel that literature can enrich lives both young and old.

As a graduate in special education, with emphasis in speech and hearing, I helped students improve language skills and articulation deficiencies. I used their curriculum and texts. I then obtained my master's degree in Special Education - Mild/Moderate Disabilities, and certification in Elementary Education. I worked with students who were general ed and special needs. For the last 10 years I have taught middle school level, except for teaching a 2nd grade class for one year, and acting as speech therapist for grades K-6. I am highly creative, driven, patient, and motivational. I have taught in the private school sector, a clinical setting, as well as public schools for twenty years. My teaching style is based largely on the priority academic student skills for Oklahoma.
