Microsoft Office is one of my top subjects! Many years experience using all versions of MS Office, with a focus on Word and Excel.

I have a fairly relaxed style, though I am flexible and can adjust to whatever will make the student(s) most comfortable.
I worked as an ESL teacher in Japan for almost four years teaching people of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. The opportunity to live in Japan, coupled with study in university has also given me an intermediate level of Japanese. In high school I also had a position as an assistant teacher at a karate dojo, working with large groups of children of all ages. Additionally, having studied and/or worked in Japan, the UK, New Zealand and most recently Australia, I have familiarity interacting with people from wide ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds and can alter my teaching style accordingly.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have work with special education student, as well as advance placement student. I have only noticed one difference with each group and that is the pace that the classroom goes in. Although I enjoy working with small groups or one on one with student I believe that I am able to work with more then ten students at a time. I really try to let the kids explain to me how they interoperate the dictation first and then help them a long. I let all the students do as much as they can on their own, I believe is the best way to assists a child which I have done volunteering at the Land L Learning center, I worked with young age group going into first and six grade to help them get up to grade level in reading. My goal as I help every child that I work with is to get them to be able to do it on their own with out any help by the end of the year.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style involves being open and relatable while keeping he conversation related to learning and the subjects of importance. I feel like students respond best when they are in a positive work environment and are pushed to be their best. This involves teaching through the Socratic method, of forcing individuals to answer their own questions. I believe that tutors and teachers should be providing students with the tools and skills they need to be productive students instead of giving away answers.
I have been tutoring as a volunteer and as a job for a combined 7 years now. The cliche saying of "practice makes perfect" does not stray too far from the core of my teaching philosophy, however I do differ on a key point. I believe that practicing anything (whether or not it relates to academics) can only be done successfully if certain foundational skills are present; just as a baseball player, regardless of inherent talent, will fail if they do not know how to hold a bat correctly, so will an English student fail, regardless of the inherent quality of their thought processes, if they do not understand how to properly structure an essay. Practice must thus be accompanied with structured guidance in order to ensure that a strong foundation is in place.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the learning process. My goal is to provide an environment for the student to grow to love the process of learning. I see myself as a guide there to encourage the student in certain directions and to lead him to specific discoveries. I know when to patiently wait for discovery to occur and when to offer additional help and guidance. When learning is enjoyable and curiosity is created, the student finds the resolve, motivation, and determination necessary to continue learning. Hopefully, it will become a lifelong habit.
Though my primary study has been of a religious nature, I am very skilled in the other subjects of a quality educational foundation, as well. I am especially gifted at math as I scored a 730 in math on my SAT's. In 2003 I worked at Cedarcrest High School in Duvall as Special Education Assistant tutoring students with ADD and ADHD. My experience as a teacher began in my Church, I taught for 3 years in one of our Sunday School classes. My students ranged in age from 2-11 years old. After graduation from the University of Washington I was unsure if Education was what I wanted to do. So I chose a different path, and found out just how much I loved to teach. I decided to take the certification exam for Reading and Elementary Education I passed the Reading exam and missed the Elem. Ed by 5 points. I decided to go into Adult education to see if it was for me. I began teaching communications at Bates in November of 2009, I now teach Interpersonal Communications and a Human Relations course. I just completed training to become a certified online instructor.

I have been professionally teaching for almost 30 years whether it be swimming to five year olds or flying to heads of aviation organizations. Few things give greater satisfaction than sharing what I have learned with others and watching them grow as they learn. A skilled, dedicated teacher, with a passion for the subject, can get anyone to learn, all the learner needs is a little desire. It is my job as a teacher/mentor to explore and grow that desire. I believe in a relaxed, but disciplined teaching environment of mutual respect between teacher and learner where both can learn from each other.

As a doctor of Biomathematics, I have a deep passion for mathematics and applied mathematics. From my undergraduate days as a math major at Columbia University, to the intensive research of my doctoral program, I have developed a finely tuned understanding of mathematics and the applications thereof. I have taught college courses both independently and as an assistant for 9 years, and am very comfortable teaching any level of mathematics. I enjoy one-on-one work, and find this to be the best learning environment for many students. Currently, I conduct part-time research and am hoping to expand my work as a private tutor of mathematics.

It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject. When appropriate, I ask the student to teach me.
In graduate school, I developed a management style, Egalitarian Leadership. The faculty encouraged me to submit my paper to Harvard Business School. Currently, I am writ ... read more
