More About This Tutor...

After graduating from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., I returned to Wyoming to work in politics and government. I have been asked to teach chapters on Government in the local high schools as well as teaching Sunday School classes locally in Cheyenne. I serve in the State Legislature as well as working in the community to help youth succeed in their goals.
I try to create a fun learning environment, ensuring the youth can ask questions, have flexibility at their learning speed and still master the material in ways that will stay with them. Depending on the subject area, I like to give hypotheticals, questions and real-world examples that will help achieve memorization easier.

A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring began while I was studying at Montana State University. My Junior year I enrolled in a class that was based around community service and my role was tutoring middle school aged children. The tutoring was in a small group setting and was on any subject the children needed help in but mainly in reading comprehension. After college, I attended Via Lingua where I became certified to teach ESL. It was here that my tutor experience expanded. For 4 months, I not only taught night classes but tutored on a one-one basis with students who needed further assistance. After moving back to the U.S., I got a job at American Cultural Exchange at Montana State University. When I started here my first job was tutoring 3 students from Japan. In these sessions, we concentrated on everything from grammar and conversation skills to reading comprehension.

More About This Tutor...

Children are intrinsically curious and interested learners. My role as an educator is to provide a safe environment for risk-taking that engages learners. Developing a relationship with the children is always part of the learning process. Through my teaching experiences and continuing education, I have learned the importance of constructivist learning as well as other approaches that help students when they are struggling with a particular concept. I believe that it’s important to provide children with an appropriate level of challenge as they are learning. To do so, they need experiences that are guided, then shared, and finally that are independent. Assessment is an important part of the teaching and learning process. I use assessments that inform my next moves as a teacher, and make sure that the assessment and teaching materials I am using directly apply to the skills and conc ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from the University of Wyoming within 3 1/2 years and student taught in first grade. Since then, I have been teaching in several preschool programs and spent part of one year as a long term substitute for a Title 1 program. This position enabled me to spend extra time and gain experience in the Guided Reading program.
As I think of my life without teaching, I cannot imagine what else I would be doing. I believe that children learn in a variety of ways. Some through listening, some through reading or watching, and some through doing. My goal is to find the way that works for each child and use that method to help them on their way to reaching their full potential.
