I am a great believer in Cognitive Constructivist teaching methods. I believe "working with" a new concept or idea is extremely valuable in remembering the target information. So, in working with my current students, I always try to reinforce lecture information with patient guided practice and hands-on activities so that the student can build his or her own knowledge and get the information to stick. I have dedicated the majority of my adult life to reaching and teaching others so that they may reach their potential. I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it. As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them.

I teach in a high school Resource Room, a program designed primarily for students with learning disabilities or at-risk students- those students who are at-risk of failing a subject due to reading/comprehension difficulties, the fast pace of the regular classroom, or a learning style that does not fit the traditional classroom. My expertise is designing a course of study that fits the individual needs of the student - finding out how they learn best so they are able to learn. I tutor all core subject areas in the Resource Room and I have also tutored on-line for Sylvan Educate Online in Remedial Reading and Math. I believe in setting high expectations for students and believe that all students can learn and excel. When most high school seniors were registering for classes, they had an easy agenda planned. My intentions were entirely different. I decided to challenge myself the final year and study more science coursework than was needed for me to sufficiently graduate. In addition, I was the kind of friend that was reliable in understanding course concepts, so most of my friends and some other peers were coming to me for help.
