Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.

Rather than tell the student the answer, I find a way to allow the student to discover the answer him or herself. One way how I do this is by asking the pupil smaller leading questions in order to put the pieces of the bigger picture together.
