I consider myself to be fun and entertaining and very approachable in my teaching methods. I have worked with at-risk children in the Chicago Public Schools system to teach a wide range of skills, primarily focusing on college readiness skills, essay and resume writing, ACT preparation, and remedial and advanced reading techniques. I am also highly qualified to teach speech and journalism, and have a year of experience in each as well. Interaction prevents or indicates "going too fast" or overwhelming them--"the eyes" are engaged or indicate "shut-down". A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very patient, hands-on style of tutor. I take the time and try to explain things to people who have a hard time understanding. I try to gage what the student is struggling with and also what they do understand, so I can quickly pinpoint their troubles and focus on the problem issue. Some kids need more explaining, others need a picture drawn out for them. I am good at finding what method people learn best with.
I graduated from the University of Washington last year with a BA in Journalism. I've also received an AA Degree from Highline Community College. Unlike many Journalism students, I have experience in arithmetic like algebra, pre-calculus and calculus. I've tutored students in math and writing, from first graders to college peers.

I love to teach, and I believe my teaching style is very laid back. I like to allow my students to attempt things and try to figure it out with the information I provide. That way I know they are grasping the concepts. That is more important to me then speeding through a course just to get things done. I would be a failure if one of my students left my course not knowing exactly what they were doing. A Little Bit About Me...

Writing is my forte and always has been. I have assisted my peers and those younger than me in their writing efforts in school a number of times and I held an editor position with the newspaper at Highline Community College. My responsibility there was to copy edit each story, as well as write my own articles. I have experience working with elementary school age youth through being a camp leader for 5th and 6th graders, and being an aunt to 2 boys ages 8 and 11. I have also spent time with a person with a mental disability through a program called "Stepping Out for Fun" in which I spent time with a girl my age, doing things any typical teenage girl would.
