I am currently working with the Department of Defense in Analytics / Security but love tutoring on the side! I have previously tutored students in math, test preparation, and SAT / ACT prep, programming, Arabic / French and in multiple different students including Middle School, High School, College, and professional.
I prefer to teach one-on-one with students for best results. However I have done tutoring in a variety of teaching styles (group, class, lecture) and I am comfortable and dynamic in many situations.

My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : Java

Learning can be difficult when the fundamentals are not understood. Education becomes easier when the basics are understood. My teaching style assures the fundamentals are understood, the basics are known and then build on top of it. Students takes chances and learn on their own when they have the fundamental understanding. Students tend to cram the solutions when the basic are not understood. I combine the activity of teaching/training with my main job (software Architect/Developer and CTO of the Software Company I founded and own. I teach my students to become professionals. Most of my students look for job opportunities after my classes because they become confident that they can perform the job or do well in the class. Communication is very important in software education and in my instruction skill. The terminology used in teaching is very important, and must be consisten ... read more

Looking for help with Engineering, Math or Computer Science?

I like to try and figure out how a student goes about understanding different topics. Often times teachers teach right from the textbook, but this can be confusing and students can be left behind because they learn differently. I know from experience that lectures don't always help and that another approach can be best.
I am currently a PhD student in Computer and Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland. I have both my B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University. In addition, I have several years of experience as a teaching assistant at Bucknell. I also have several years of experience with computer science, programming for a government laboratory.

My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I am a IT professional with 15+ years of experiences.

I am a software developer with 15 years of experience programming with Java, HTML, SQL etc. Since my years at Johns Hopkins University, where I earned master degree in Computer Science, I have tutored students in Java and data structures. My students really loved me for my easy-to-understand explanations. If you have been struggling with computer programming, I would love to work with you. A Little Bit About Me...

From 1997 to 2008 I was a school technologist in Maine public schools. I organized extracurricular programs, worked with individual students and small groups, and co-taught math and science classes. My teaching centered on math, computers, physics, and general science. Some of my extracurricular activities included a robotics club; summer computer programming classes for early elementary students; and field expeditions to study insects. I also offered workshops for teachers and parents. Before working in schools, I was a scientific and systems computer programmer and used math as part of my daily work.
My teaching style varies depending upon the needs of the child. I am patient and aware of many students’ stress around math. My goal is to improve each student’s basic understanding and confidence and to increase her or his enjoyment of learning. I select from a variety of approa ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I always enjoyed teaching mathematics topics such as Calculus to students. That subject in particular is needed for many applied fields in which several (engineering, physics, actuarial science) I have both working and educational experience in. I tutored for three years in various mathematics subjects at Penn State.
I enjoy teaching adults and young adults who may be in high school or college. You can always find a way to relate the material to the student, and that is the key for them not just to understand it but care about it and have motivation. Such distracted or unprivileged students just need someone to sit down with them and break the teachings down for them.

A Little Bit About Me...

It has always been a passion of mine to work with and educate young children and youth. I began tutoring at a Elementary School for a few hours when I was in high school as well as assisted other children with math and reading on an as needed basis. When I was away at undergrad school, I was able to work with local Elementary children, but it was not on a consistent basis. Once I graduated from Undergrad, I returned home and began tutoring with my church and volunteered to work with the Sr. Youth Ministry as well. During this time period I also worked with two different tutoring companies.
My teaching style varies based on the child that I am working with that time. I have worked with children with all different kinds of learning styles, so I have learned over the years that you have to be flexible and mindful of the specific child that you are working with. Through my experience I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my college career, I've gained a plethora of tutoring experience in the Mathematics field; ranging from elementary math to Calculus. I've tutored privately, in groups, home schooled students and in a college math lab. I've also taught a 10th grade Algebra class.
I like learning the student's learning style, then making the information relatable to them. I also like finding their weak spots then building on that with constant repetition. Also, I will try to give the student real life problems so they can see how they can/will use the Math in everyday situations.

As a former mathematics educator at the college level I feel that mathematics or any other science is possible to be learned and comprehended by the student through the use of real life examples.
