My comments on tutoring Writing : Help with organization, content, proofreading, editing. All forms of writing: research, informational, persuasive, descriptive, expository, narrative, technical, response to literature. The most important part of your writing in order to allow your readers to understand what you have written.

I believe that grammar and punctuation are critical in written expression. I am very focused on the learning style of the student and will begin with most student making that determination and connection with the student. I also work well with students who are dyslexic, have ADD/ADHD, and who are left-handed. I attempt to build a relationship with the student so that are willing to listen, learn, and work to master their assignment and/or skill. Meeting students where they are academically and not "where they are supposed to be." Allow the student to lead the way and discover the answers and pathways to knowledge and skill.

Writing is one of my top subjects!

For most students, essays are their number one issue. After they have told me their concerns, I like to read over the paper myself and any correct grammar mistakes I find along the way. I also sometimes write in comments in the margin to refer back to. If I have an issue or am confused about a certain session, I stop and ask the student. I also often read the sentence(s) aloud so the student can hear the what is wrong. If he or she still does not see an issue, I explain my concerns and we work together until we are both happy. After I’m done reading, I express any more concerns I have and once again work with the student until we are both happy. I also help with work cited pages. My comments on tutoring Writing : For the past five years I've been working with high school and college students on their writing skills. Each person has their own process, and sometimes a student needs to discover what works best for them. I help them figure out how they best get words from their mind to the paper.
